UK Secretary of Environment Steve Barclay announced at the Kyiv International Summit that the kingdom has set out a support package in solidarity for the war-torn Ukraine.

Barclay “reaffirmed the UK’s support for President Zelenskyy’s Grain from Ukraine initiative,” the government said in an official press release, adding that the new funding worth £3 million will enable Ukraine to export grain to Nigeria.

“From our government to our farmers, our solidarity with the people of Ukraine remains cast iron. The UK is committed to ensuring Ukraine can continue to export grain to those most in need,” said Barclay.

“I am also proud we will be able to share the UK and Defra’s expertise to help Ukraine’s farmland and nature recover from the destruction of the Nova Kakhovka Dam and the impact of the conflict,” he added.

Ethiopia, Somalia, and Yemen are among the nations that have received 170,000 tonnes of grain from Kyiv as part of the initiative.

The UK will provide an additional £3 million to the scheme, which will then be extended to other needy nations.

Over sixty heads of state and organizations came together for the Kyiv International Summit: Grain from Ukraine.
